Danielle Scutt

Inspired by Seventies postcards, Danielle Scutts SS10 collection is delightful & her skater dresses are perfect for this season & amazing weather. Bright and bold patterns are a key trend this summer and the high street is awash with floral designs.

Piers Atkinson

Piers Atkinson is an extrememly talented Milliner who designs the most abstract, eccentric but fantastic hats and headwear. I have the pleasure of him teaching me as part of my Fashion Promotion degree at UCA and despite him generously lending his knowledge to students he is also making impressive waves within the fashion industry. I adore his work, he takes admirable risks & thinks outside of the box. His Summer collection is named 'Sex On The Brain' & he has also made headbands made from barbies and Mickey Mouse ears. His creations have been featured in a variety of publications including Vogue, he has designed a high strreet range for Topshop & his 'Rani' mask (as part of his A/W10 'It Is Later Than You Think' collection) was also worn by Lady Gaga when she appeared on the Jonathon Ross show.

Braid-y Bunch

Alexander Wang S/S10

From glossy plaits to backcombed braids, they dominated fashion week and is the hairstyle hot for summer 2010. Also seen on Miu Miu and Jean Paul Gaultier, Magaret Howell and Prada.

Animal Print

Prints are dominating both the runway and high street at the moment and come summer, animal print always proves popular. D&G featured leopard print this season, Margherita Missoni (pictured left) wore this brilliant bright wrap-around dress at the weekend to an event to celebrate the design duo. Katy Perry was also spotted out and about in NYC in an equally fantastic cheetah-print dress, reminiscent of the Flintstones- inspiration for Jeremy Scotts latest collection (pictured above right).

The late Alexander Mcqueen took inspiration from sea-reptiles with his vibrant digitally printed dresses & Diane Von Furstenburg introduced tiger-print suits & leopard shirt-dresses.

Perhaps one of the most popular collections, Miu Miu took a different approach to animal print. Inspired by youth & innocence, short Lolita dresses were splashed with adorable dog, cat and bird motifs (pictured right). The collection is possibly the most coveted and loved from spring summer, with its style being imitated by high street retailer Zara.

'Belle de Nuit' Party

Leather shorts are a big trend for spring/ summer which Alexa demonstrates perfectly & they would look great for the upcoming festival season. Henry Holland designed a great affordable pair for his H! collection at Debenhams.

Beauty Trend- Lips

Painted lips are big trend for this season. Models cavorted down the runway at fashion week showcasing a rainbow of shades on their lips, from candy-coloured pinks to deep gothic reds, demonstrated by Marc Jacobs and Rodarte (as pictured).

Dark lips are probably my personal favourite. Dark lips are unexpected for the summer & adds a particular edge to summers laid-back vibe. There are so many different shades available to match your skin tone too!

Lady Gaga & Cyndi Lauper, both innotive icons for the fashion and music industries, became ambassadors for MAC as part of their Viva Glam Campaign to raise awareness and to help women battle against Aids.

Designer Tom Ford also released his eagerly-anticipated collection of to-die-for shades called 'Private Blend' which hit the shelves in April.

Go grunge like Mary-Kate Olsen & Taylor Momsen or opt for fluro pinks like Rihanna. Get fashion forward & check out brands such as Barry M and Revlon have some great affordable shades so you can imitate this seasons biggest beauty trend.

Summer = Dress

The dress, a simple word. The dress, a simple item of clothing. The dress , A summer essential.

We all know summer is here, the longer nights and the brighter days are just an inkling of what is to come . Summer is certainly here and the fashion has also arrived. So whats hot for summer?
Many opt for the classic shorts and vests with avail , and who am I to say no, many pull this look off . However for summer , the most essential item of all is like stated before the simple dress.

The dress can be worn throughout summer and winter, it’s a classic understated allrounder. A dress is girly, yet depending on what cut and size can be sexy and sophisticated. A dress is prefect for daytime and evening, the family BBQ or the latenight meal. The dress can hug or hide your figure. The dress is the must have item for your wardrobe.

Whatever your style you can find a dress to suit you, maybe an empire line dress… perhaps a mini dress…even the bodycon dress? Whatever dress you have or want there are more than plenty to choose from, with dresses being a necessity it is vital that you have a dress or hopefully plenty of dresses that suit your body shape. A few do not’s:

• Do not buy a dress too small for you in the hope it will fit you, Im sorry to tell you the likeliness of this happeneing is pretty slim.
• Do buy a simple black dress, this will go with anything any everything from day to evening , a strong recommendation to have this.
• Do not buy a dress that swamps your figure, for example a smock dress is meant to be big and therefore some people have to avoid this. You have to decide what suits you and what doesn’tt.
• Do have a collection of comfortable dresses for those days you feel sluggish but also want to feel girly. The dress can be perfect at hiding any unwanted bulges.

As stated before a dress is simply an item of clothing, however is it simply an item of clothing when you want to get married and have your perfect dress? Is it a simple dress on that day ? I don’t think so. If we look out of the box we can see that actually the dress on a womans wedding day is a very important if not one of the most important things to her, This is being stated for a reason …. The reason being with a dress comes power, the power when a woman wears a figure hugging dress that stands out from the croud, this itself is power, and without the simple dress would she have the same effect? Would she stand out?

Whether you agree with this or not, it is hard to argue that a dress cannot be a huge asset to any womans wardrobe. The dress in the summer is important with all the festivals…BBQs….sunbathing…..holidays…. etc there is no reason not to own a dress as soon as summer emerges.

So if you are another woman dress-less this summer take my advise and get one , they are always in trend and will always be around.

Seasons Hottest Trends

Say goodbye to the winter and the grey baggy jumpers, and welcome the summer’s nude frills. Yes, once again we approach the summer, which this season is set to be a scorcher with trends all about textures and statement pieces. From festival chick to cocktails at dusk the styles this season are vast, in whatever style you choose make sure you stick to ivory, white or nude as these are the colours that are big this summer.

Holiday season is finally here and wither its abroad or a festival you are going to the first thing in mind is the killer bikini body. Some women eat less if anything ,some decide to take up exercise in a desperate last minute attempt to ditch the bulge, but there is a new way to get that bikini body without having to do anything and is a favorite among many celebrities Imp of course talking about the maxi dress, not only does the maxi hide a multitude of sins it is also bang on trend this summer.
To achieve the perfect look, wear some gladiator sandals which again are on trend this season, perhaps add a blazer or denim jacket which are continuing to be huge this summer. This will create the perfect maxi look.

This summer allows for every style so be bold, be stylish and be comfortable.
